LNG

LNG, or Liquefied Natural Gas, is a clean-burning fossil fuel primarily composed of methane (CH₄). It is produced from natural gas by cooling it to approximately −162°C, at which point it condenses into a liquid form. In its natural state, natural gas is gaseous at normal temperature and pressure; however, liquefaction significantly reduces its volume, making LNG efficient for storage and long-distance transportation.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

State: Stored and transported in liquid form at cryogenic temperatures (approximately −162°C); vaporizes into natural gas when warmed.

Energy Density: High energy content by volume in liquid form, enabling efficient storage and transportation of large quantities of natural gas.

Clean Fuel: Produces lower carbon dioxide emissions and negligible sulfur oxides, particulates, and nitrogen oxides compared to coal, oil, and diesel fuels.

COMMON USES

Power Generation: Used in gas-fired power plants to produce reliable and efficient electricity with lower environmental impact.

Industrial Use: Applied in industries such as steel, cement, glass manufacturing, petrochemicals, and food processing for heating and energy needs.

Transportation & Marine Fuel: Used as a cleaner alternative to diesel in trucks, buses, locomotives, and ships, especially for long-haul and maritime operations.
