EN590 DIESEL FUEL

EN590 is a European standard that defines the physical and chemical properties of diesel fuel used in automotive compression-ignition (diesel) engines. Introduced by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), EN590 ensures uniform quality, performance, and environmental compliance for diesel fuels across Europe and many other markets worldwide.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS:

Sulfur Content: Maximum of 10 mg/kg (10 ppm), making it an ultra-low-sulfur fuel that minimizes emissions and engine wear.

Density @15°C: Between 820–845 kg/m³, providing an optimal balance of energy content and performance.

Lubricity: Designed to protect modern high-pressure fuel injection systems despite low sulfur levels.

USES OF EN590 DIESEL:

  • Widely used as automotive diesel fuel in on-road vehicles such as cars, trucks, and buses.

  • Serves as a fuel for industrial and agricultural machinery, including generators and construction equipment.

  • Used in marine and off-road applications where low emissions and engine reliability are essential.

  • Complies with European emission standards (Euro 5 and Euro 6) for reduced particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions.
